The Program History: NAWBO-SF Entrepreneurs Economic Institute
Leaders’ Circle: Started the Leaders’ Circle Program in 2006, a peer-to-peer advisory group that is tailored specifically to women business owners whose businesses have revenues of at least $2 million each.  Members meet monthly for half-day roundtable sessions to address the issues and challenges that come with increase revenue and employees.  The program now operates under the direction of NAWBO SFBA.

NAWBO UNAWBO University (NAWBO U) was introduced to women entrepreneurs in San Francisco Bay Area in 2005 by NAWBO SFBA.  NAWBO University was modeled after a similar program provided by NAWBO Los Angeles and provided the first of its kind educational forum for women business owners in the Northern California region.

Women owned businesses tend to be smaller with difficulty scaling in revenue and job creation.  There are many reasons for this.  In our educational programs information is provided to inform women on topics critical to the growth of their business.

NAWBO U is a half-day event.  Each half-day consists of consecutive workshops that deliver practical, usable content to women entrepreneurs in highly concentrated format.  NAWBO U provides a blend of academic and real-world education to women entrepreneurs.  Based on expressions of interest from past attendees, NAWBO U includes a panel of women entrepreneurs telling their stories of success.

Some previous academic partners have been: Golden Gate University, San Francisco and California State University East Bay and Small Business Development Centers.  Topics presented have included:  Breaking through barriers of self-promotion, Pitching your business to a corporation, Surviving and thriving through fluctuating business cycles, Changing the business culture, Accessing capital, Procurement and more.

NAWBO U supports and accelerates the growth of women-owned businesses.  These in turn contribute to the growth of the local economy and provide strong advocates for public policies affecting women, minorities, and small business owners.

New programs are created with the support of corporate partners and donations.
